What is a Green Bag?

The Green Bag is a reusable canvas bag that will help you say NO to ugly plastic bags, be kind to the environment, and go green.

Plastic bags are used in all Georgian retail outlets, often when it's unnecessary. While they only serve a short term purpose carrying goods from shop to home, their lifespan can last anywhere between 15 and 1000 years. Plastic bags don’t biodegrade, they photodegrade - breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic pieces, contaminating soil and waterways. The increasing number of plastic bags is a real tragedy for Tbilisi and other urban areas. Most plastic bags either end up in land fill sites, frequently serving as “lunch” for livestock; get burnt, exposing city residents  to health dangers, or are just scattered around everywhere.

To reduce the use of plastic bags, CENN launched the pilot project "Discover Alternatives! Say NO to Plastic Bags!". This campaign is the first attempt in Georgia to speak out on the harm of plastic bags and to remind customers of the alternatives.

We are promoting canvas bags as a comfortable and practical alternative to single use plastic bags. You can make your town a cleaner, nicer and healthier place to live just by being fashionable and carrying your reusable canvas bag whenever you go shopping!
